Unity08 has been presented by the media in many different ways. Are we a movement? Are we are a ‘party’? Are we deeply concerned citizens? Are we a plaintiff in a lawsuit against the FEC? Are we doing the hard work for potential candidates? Are we building world class technology to deliver the peoples’ voice?… Yes, technically, all of these things are true. But the sum of the parts is more important. Unity08 is relighting the torch of freedom for our country.
There is no question that America’s torch is dimmer than it was. Before I became the CEO of Unity08, I was dismayed at the hyper partisan party politics, the infighting of issue groups that have far more in common than apart, lobbyists that spend more time on the hill than our elected lawmakers, the absence of compromise, our failing infrastructure, these issues never seem to gain anyone’s attention. Its occurred to me that the power brokers wanted to keep it like that, and that to change the two party system, its entitlements, its carve-outs, would truly upset their global balance of power. So to say that I didn’t feel my voice, or my money would make a difference is an understatement. I did my civic duty to vote, but it was a vote for the least worst candidate in ‘hope’ that they would know the correct direction.
I know I am not alone. Americans have seen voter turnout and political interest dwindle even as we face our Country’s most important challenges. Luckily while ‘hope’ is not a strategy, Unity08 is. A bold strategy to remake the political landscape while healing a nation divided.
I am excited to be part of the solution, and to stop talking about possible solutions, and deliver one. With your help and the help of millions of others, it will be one that we all can all get behind. Technology flattens the power curve. It will allow us to rise up by the millions and set a true American Agenda for our Country. It will be one for prospective candidates, and one that will relight the torch of freedom for the world.
Don’t know about you, but I can’t wait.

Pete, GEA, do you see the survey in better light if the context of it is a first step? I think we first have to have some idea of where "we" are at and what we are made up of.
If the survey went aggressively at the agenda, it's possible we'd end up with an activist agenda instead of a moderate one. That's because those of us on here now are a bit more activist than moderate. Also, the people who are not yet with Unity but will come later, will probably do so after the Dem and Rep nominees become clear. It would be sort of unfair for all those people to come to Unity only to hear a message akin to "Sorry, you're too late. We already decided everything. Take it or leave it."
I'm not trying to make a smug statement there, but rather a very honest one. If the principle of Unity08 is mass participation we need to get that mass before we decide too much. Otherwise we're no better than the other parties with their limited delegation.
The flipside, of course, is that we need some killer reason(s) to get more people here. The growth of the membership is way too slow from day to day to get into the million range. But the fact that we have 100,000 delegates signed up does mean that we're getting a lot of them in bursts from those TV appearances. We either need to do more TV (if we can get on) or run some national ads (if we can afford it).

Isn't it obvious that someone like moveon.org or even a number of smaller internet based political groups could easily hijack Unity08 simply by joining in mass movement? Then they could use Unity08 as a weapon against their adversaries.
Without the commitment to a moderate agenda, we could get anything.

Why dont we ask our members if they would support impeachment of the current President & Vice President per the Bill Moyers piece on "Selling the Iraq War" This is worse than anything Bill Clinton would ever think of doing!!
I BELIEVE AN ATTEMPT AT IMPEACHMENT OF PRES., AND VP WOULD BE A COLOSSAL WASTE OF TIME, MONEY AND ENERGY. WE DON'T NEED (IF SUCCESSFUL) A FIRESTORM OVER PELOSI BEING NEXT IN LINE. THIS COUNTRY HAS BIG TIME SERIOUS PROBLEMS AND ISUES TO BE WORKED ON AND DECIDED RATIONALLY. AS A LIFELONG DEMOCRAT, I FIND THE FAR LEFT OF THAT PARTY TO BE AS OBJECTIONABLE AS THE FAR RIGHT. THERE IS A BILL APPARENTLY BEING INTRODUCED BY SEN. LARKIN TO GIVE LEGAL STATUS TO YOUNG ILLEGALS AND COLLEGE FUNDING. WE DON'T HAVE THE PROPER AND ADEQUATE MEDICAL AND HEALTHCARE FOR OUR RETURNING SERVICE PEOPLE OR OUR OWN TAXPAYING LEGAL CITIZENS, LET ALONE COLLEGE FUNDING. I SINCERELY HOPE UNITY 08 WILL GAIN MOMENTUM AND BECOME A VIABLE COUNTER TO THE STANDARD POLITICS OF TODAY. I'M NOT OPTIMISTIC, BUT HOPEFUL NEVERTHELESS. THE WAR IN IRAQ IS NOT A REAL EASY FIX. Might be a Very good,short commercial [10 seconds]- w/ JUST the "unity08.com" - on a solid black background w/ "Take back America" in small letters below. [ NO explanation !]
I am attempting to get Yoko Ono's email address, but suspect I will be unsuccessful - I'll bet you have someone that may be able to contact her , -my best bet - she'll understand and agree immediately. If Michael Jackson "owns" the song - it could be more difficult - let him sing the "revised version" [for free!] - he needs a "comeback". If Paul McCartney needs to become involved , I'd bet that he would sign on , as he knows how much damage an "out of control" American government can do to the world in general !
If a major [saturation] ad campaign could be mounted, for perhaps as few as two months , then I'd suggest that later,very frequent,5 second ads , where ever you could purchase them , radio, tv?, FB stadiums, anywhere, everywhere ! This brilliant ad campaign has already been done before , by "P.C.Richards" - in NYC. Everytime you watch a Mets game, a 5 note tune gets played, and everyone thinks of PC Richards ! [ talk about "message ina bottle" !]
The big deal is being able to add to the lyrics - I've no idea [currently] who owns them - I'll look into it.
