You asked for anonymous commenters to be given the boot, and we have obliged. Starting today, if you wish to post comments to blogs or the Shoutbox you will need to either register or log in. While we realize this might have a temporary dampening effect on the number of comments, we hope that overall it will improve the level of discourse on the website.
As facilitating an intelligent exchange of ideas is one of our website goals, we're working on other improvements including better comment presentation, comment threading (allows you to respond to a specific comment), comment-level ratings, and comment-level polls. Some of these changes will be rolled out sooner than others, but please know that we've heard all of your requests and we're hard at work to improve our comment system.
If you have any questions about our decision to require registration to post comments, please contact us at web@unity08.com.
Changing the political landscape is a serious business and at the earliest stages, a few dedicated people are more important than a broad array of dilettantes. Also, as has been suggested by others, this movement is vulnerable in its infancy to vandalism and even deliberate sabotage by the major political parties.
I’m not saying we should restrict participation to a hand picked cabal – far from it.
Instead, what I suggest is that any citizen may participate provided that they register with their full name and some information that can be used to validate their identity (driver’s license number, credit card number, something).
Also, I would institute a warning then suspension then ban process for abusive behavior.
My guess is that there are plenty of serious people who want what Unity08 wants but that too many of them come here and see what looks like business as usual - partisan bickering and move on.
Also, however we may differ on the “real” issues of the day; we must keep our eyes on the prize: breaking the stranglehold that the Democrats and Republicans have on the election process.
We may not agree on what policy should be but we all know that the two major parties are unable or unwilling to enact effective solutions.
This must change – the future of our nation depends on it – and a viable third party (especially one in the middle) will create this change.

It is a apple ripe for our taking... as the two parties start spewing the same blah blah blah with no real policy solitions - we have a real opportunity to define problem solving solutions utilizing technology and our ability to fund the return of God if we must... We need a policy minister to begin some kind of a policy poll ... so we can see where the middle ground is amonst us all? What I may think is middle may be far left or right to another... but I'm sure we must find the biggest wedge issues, those that make us stand out from the two heads and preach those things hard and the rest will follow...
