Why I joined Unity08:
To grow as a democracy it is important to have an informed electorate, a leadership unencumbered by special interests, and know where we stand as a nation and in the international community. I believe the goals and objectives stated in Unity'08's founding documents can further these realizations; and, provides a potential for more representative government.

When we pay homage to the flag it is to honor those who by their resourcefulness and sweat of their brows built this country, contributed to its culture, and rose to its defense. From the lowest paid laborer, to the engineers, educators and entrepreneurs, the artists & musicians that gave expression to our unique identity, and to the members of our military, particularly for those who lost their lives or were maimed in all the conflicts to date - and their loved ones that have endured the unendurable. To be worthy of that heritage, our elected leaders must merit our confidence, be more accountable, and exercise due diligence in assuring sacrifices of our youth are limited to response to a physical attack on our country (e.g. Pearl Harbor, Trade Center) by a clearly identified enemy, or as part of a humanitarian cause in conjunction with the international community. The diversity of our populace reflects the world in microcosm, and is the core of our strength. When the cause is just, this country will always prevail. Promoting democracy and individual freedoms abroad as a common birthright is a worthy endeavor, but not at the expense of life and treasure. It should be by example, i.e. a truly integrated society that insures health care and a quality education for every citizen, an equitable share in its prosperity, judicious use of the planet’s resources, and by free and non-exploitive trade practices that foster improved social conditions and mutual growth among the family of nations. We are all related
