Does America Know Our Country is in Trouble?

The latest GWU Battleground Poll (from Lake Research and the Tarrance Group) tells us lots that we've heard before: 70% of the people think the country is on the wrong track; 57% disapprove of the job the Republican president is doing; 52% disapprove of the job the Democrats are doing in Congress.

But they went further. Asked which of these qualities is the most important in a Member of Congress, 32% said "strength of values and convictions" and twice as many, 64%, said "willingness to find practical workable solutions." 93% said Washington lawmakers put partisan politics ahead of the people, and an astonishing 71% say that of their very own Member of Congress.

No wonder that a plurality of Americans felt that in the future their children will be "worse off" than they are right now. That is an amazing finding in a country where our optimism is supposed to be the hallmark!

What it says is that the people don't expect the politicians in either party to lead. That leaves it up to the people. Only the people can lead us out of this mess, starting now, starting here – literally, starting here, at Unity08.com. This is your site. This is your country.

Including the UNITY08 Rules Committee - I seem to be the only American that's "pin pointed" - what action is the mandatory first step to turning things around ..

Fact : No matter who wins THE WHITE HOUSE - the embedded Power Brokers in Congress will oppose any Political Reforms that ..

(a) Reduces their power, pay, perks and pensions !!

(b) Exposes the "inner workings and behind closed doors deals of Members of Congress and Congressional Committees" to Public Scrutiny !!

THAT IS THE NATURE OF THE BEAST !!

There is (as I keep telling Doug, Unity08 & The American People) ONLY ONE LEGAL & PRACTICAL SOLUTION .. that is the Plan I developed and proposed to UNITY08 - to accomplish two vital moves ..

1. Give Unity08 a Plan It Could Publicize early enough TO GAIN WIDE MSM & PUBLIC ATTENTION - THAT WOULD "RESONATE WITH MILLIONS OF POTENTIAL DELEGATES & VOTERS " ..

2. Create A Situation that would INSURE Whoever Got Elected - To The White House and To Congress : Would Be Bound By A Formal Contract To Abide By A Peoples Agenda for Political Reform ..

The Plan I proposed complies with Our Constitutional Rights & Responsibilities , Bill Of Rights, and All Established & Accepted Sound Management Practices .. I will be glad to discuss it with our attorney's at Steptoe & Johnson ..

The plan MUST BE IMPLEMENTED ASAP TO GAIN MAXIMUM EFFECT - Social & Financial !!

Bob, as Doug knows - I'm an Old Man but I know what I'm talking about .. THIS PLAN could virtually guarantee us becoming the FRONT RUNNER WHEN IT COUNTS ..

And Bob - Ive cast my lot with UNITY08 by investing everything I've learned in what's been a remarkable life : I THINK It's TIME THE FOUNDING COUNCIL GAVE SOME INDICATION - IT'S PAYING ATTENTION !!

We need to get on this before someone else picks up on it from my Blog ..

addressing your political planks to the delegates for their support, instead of the leadership of Unity08? I mean, that's the plan, isn't it? Has something changed? Why do you think all you have to do is submit your plan to the leadership of Unity08 and it will be adopted; by whom?

What you are saying, in effect, is that this whole thing is rigged... it's the leadership of Unity08 who is really going to make the important decision on what gets adopted by the delegates. They control the delegate e-mail list. They control the communications with the delegates. They control the process. They control everything. You understand this better than anybody, so you take your plan to the people who you believe are going to adopt your plan, the four owners of Unity08.

So when will an actual plan develop?

A Democrat seeks complex solution to simple problems
A Republican seeks simple solutions to complex problems
A reasonable person seeks simple solutions for solvable problems

With just enough republicans in both The House and Senate, the Democrats are unable and maybe even unwilling to impose the referendum the people decided in ’06. Even if Congress had the political will to move for withdrawal, it will only be vetoed. Solution? Impeachment. I am tired of this weak argument of, “Well, we’re there so we now have to clean up the mess we made.”

The word “impeachment” is used in the Constitution over eleven times. Impeachment isn’t an admission of guilt. It is exactly the verbiage described in the contact the President signs with the American people when he or she takes office. Impeachment is a halt, not a trial. It is a time to recollect and ask questions. It is the ultimate oversight.

The Internet has informed millions upon millions of people. It even inspired a debate on CNN, which I thought was very effective. However, when the people collectively scream on the web, the government still doesn’t listen. The media marginalizes candidates like Dennis Kucinich because he doesn’t pander to the corporate interest. He is one of the brave people of Congress who is actively perusing the Impeachment of Bush and Cheney.

But for the most part, everyone in the government is treating this like business as usual, because the Democratic frontrunners know that if they say the same thing the Republicans say (but in a slightly different tone) they will get the T.V. time it takes to look like a real candidate.

Why should they care? With the contribution laws, big business gets them elected, not us. We need free T.V. time to all candidates.

The last sentence of your comment says it all about American politics today. The only hope for this country is public funding of political campaigns. Total elimination of private money with the exception of $100 per individual to circmuvent the opposition's free speech tirades.

Yes the numbers show high disapproval of our current state and that people are concerned with our state of affairs.

I don't believe the average citizen knows just how bad it is, it's much worse than they realize. I am not a political expert or washington insider but I am much more involved in finding out what goes on than the average citizen (hence the reason I'm here) so I think my assertion has merit.

I oringally began voting as a republican in 1992. I grew up around Washington D.C I seen the whole political process. I than became fed up with political parties. I am now indepedant. I look at both parties coming into 2024 and see the United Nations Democrates and the Old timer republicans. I don't like neither, cannot stand Hilary White Water Clinton nor the guy with the terrorist name. (Never met the guy probably nice, but the name)

I seen the drastic changes after NAFTA. American companies firing Americans to go south for cheaper labor, but at the same time we are being invaded by other people who yes are breaking rules coming into the USA. I do understand why they come here. Its because their roads are paved with gold. Thanks to HUD, Medicare, and yes Lobbyist.....

If anybody has read Thomas Jefferson writings he clearly says lobbyist is whats going to destroy our government.

The good news is we can slow the process down but alot of damage has been done. Thanks to FDR starting the Welfare system which during the great depression it worked quite well but now people are abusing the system. We needed it to end then but it has not.

I hope your group is serious. I want a group for Middle class americans aka the working class. The ones who really run the country. The ones they take the children from and send to war. The ones they say are in a higher tax bracket and tax the crap out of when we don't have that much money.

Well I better stop. Some of you understand what I am saying.

Lets get America back for Americans.....

southernavalanche says; "Hot Air". I ditto that. Ping that. bump.
These days, I get the feeling that not only a lot of damage has been done, but, that our lives and way of life and even sanity, may be in jeopardy.

Should I tell you the story of the Pol, coming out onto the sidewalk in the hot Florida sun and having a microphone plus camera thrust in his face with the question; "Mr. -----, do you believe that approving the $23,000, for the decorations; five throw pillows and two lamps, in the family waiting room in the capitol building to be a proper thing to do?"
""no one has complained this far," he replied, smugly, "if they do, I am sure you will let me know, now excuse me...."

it is not just the lobbyists.....both parties have created or supported all sorts of special interest groups and minorities....i sort of thought we were all americans.....these groups are then used to use people through promises of action into political support...a few attempting to gain more of the pie

Yeah!! I am not the only person in the country who wants to see and hear more of Dennis Kucinich. The media doesn't seem to know he exists except when he has to be on the air during a debate. Unless I'm listening to the wrong media and reading the wrong newspapers, I don't see coverage on Dennis and Bill Richardson. Hillary, Mitt and Obama get it all. We are being brainwashed into thinking these are our only choices. Please!! What am I going to do about it? I am sending e mails to every columnist including Robb asking the question...where is your coverage of Dennis and Bill?? I'd like to hear from others who agree with me.....

This may be two generations too late. How do we get a grass roots movement when something like 38% of Americans can't find North Dakota on a map? Everyone seems to blame the politicans but I don't see much about responsibility. Nothing is free. Too bad. Being a citizen does require a little work. I'd like a candidate to say something like "I can't give you a damn thing I don't take from someone else". So much for the truth.

i do think you have missed the general concept of unity 08.....i know this may be hard to believe...but this forum may not be here to forward your views...but a unity of ideals...and perpetuating the left wing line...does nothing for unity..only an attempt to forward your beliefs.....and you may find it hard to believe but electing a few congress memebers does not represent the will of the people...you know like most people.....
