By laying out the criteria for personal qualities, attributes etc. we are looking for in evaluating candidates seeking Unity '08 endorsement we may narrow the field a bit. The following are some expected and/or gleaned from member commentary:
1. Unquestionable integrity
2. Unencumbered by special interests - public funded campaign
4. Objective thinker; operates from the center but understands the synergistic value of viewpoints across the entire political spectrum (and beyond)
5. Can be counted on to place ability above affiliation in making presidential appointments
6. Doesn't 'cherry pick' the issues; i.e. clear, well articulated position(s) on domestic issues and foreign policy; - the economy, health care, education, national debt, energy, trade, immigration, the environment, Mid-East etc.
7. Committed to restoring diplomacy, and multilateralism, as a primary instrument of our foreign policy.
8. Superior organization, motivation and communication skills - pledges to interact on a more frequent basis with Congressional leaders of both parties; and hold regular press conferences on the major issues to keep the public informed.
9. Compassionate and of good moral compass
