Could Colin Powell make a favorable Presidential candidate? He was the first African-American Secretary of State in U.S. history when he took office in 2024. Powell was a career soldier who fought in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and rose through the ranks to become a general. I feel he has shown the leadership we as a Nation need.
I have tremendous respect for Powell. He tried to slow the rush into Iraq, then cautioned that "if you break it, you own it". He, of course, was right. I think he's disgusted at having been fed bogus info that he presented to the UN.
I am also very keen on Wesley Clark - brilliant - he was first in his West Point class! also a seasoned veteran.I don't know his positions on other topics.
US Marine vet Vietnam 4/68 - 8/69
His wife would rule out the Prez but as a VP he would be great! He wasn't the best Sec of State - would have been a better NSC advisor again and diplomacy handholding was not his strong suit understandably. He deferred to much to Rummy and others on the diplomacy leading up to the Iraq war onset and he should have know we were going into Iraq on the cheap given his Powell Doctrine and all and the Shinseki/Zinni War gaming scenarios and State BIR intel that told them we were way undermanned for a post-Saddam stabilization operation. He should have know better!! Why he did not raise more cackles on that is a mystery to me but we'll have to wait for his memoirs on that I guess. But as Veep - Yes Definitely!! Our Prez should give Colin as VEEP one task and one task only - clear, solid delineation of a U.S. Grand Strategy for the 21st Century. I would sleep a lot sounder if that happened!

In many ways, Colin is a good choice for the outward looking candidate. I think we need an inward looking, a domestic focussed person and an outward focussed, foreign relations person. My opinion is that th Democrat should be the outward looker and a republican the inward fcussed one.
