I dont mean to take the fun out of it, but there are 20,000 posts about those topics.
I am sincerely interested in how other people are thinking about the other aspects of global terrorism. Especially security and politics of how to defend the US and Europe against future attacks.
I think we spent too much, time, money, lives in Iraq. But the doves aren't convincing that if we just leave the Middle East everything will be okay. I'm expecting an attack on US soil within the next 5 years. Lets hope its a truck attack that gets stopped or something.
But the politics & language will change on that day. What is your position on the day after the next US attack?
How does that impact the presidential election if its before Nov 2024?
To me thats more interesting than how much you may or may not hate Bush.
note: This forum topic does not state nor imply, that any group or individual should attack any person or property in the US, or elsewhere.
I guess one of the biggest arguments for leaving Iraq is that we would free up enormous resources to fight terrorism in all kinds of ways. I think freeing up the amount of resources that could actively be applied to the problem can not be answered with single points here and there. Combining with our allies in more realistic and direct approaches just tease our expectations. We are bogged down at the front door while the multi-dimensional tactics of terrorists go unanswered at the back door.

Thats a great starting point. I agree that we're distracted by Iraq. Besides all the cost in human and financial terms. We're not getting the job done in fighting terrorism, IMO.
How do we keep the back door secure?
Do any candidates, announced or in-waiting, say anything of value about this important topic?
Iraq was, and is, about oil - it never had anything to do with terrorism as we experienced on 9/11. Saddam was not a religious wacko and because he was sitting on the sunni & shia time bomb, he didn't feed Islamic nut cases.
Afghanistan has reverted to Taliban control - too bad it doesn't have oil or we'd be more interested.
With every door we kick in in Iraq we alienate more Iraqis. It's clear our occupation of Iraq has generated more people who hate us.
We need secure borders.
We need every ship inspected that enters our ports.
We need to stop being the world's bully and giving people the reasons to hate us.
We need to stop lying and torturing - take back our image as "the good guys".
We need to stop bullying Iran, telling them "you're next".
We need to select ambassadors, generals, statesmen for their abilities, not peronal loyalties.
