I'm hoping, the below might help when " searching for " the equality in another " human being's " civil liberties.....(aka ~ civilization and laws of the land)

~ for those of a religious (christian) persuasion ...........
Luke.9.48 ~ and said to them, “Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For he who is least among you all is the one who is great.” ....

~ for the rest of us...........
the discussion is always about "male vs female" & sexual orientation.....(aka ~ freedom " of / from " )
i'm thinking the issue(s) is/are, a bit more complex ~ heterosexuality, homosexuality & intersexuality :...(for those of us still earthbound.)
ie.....the wider spectrum(s) of the human being's gender..&.. extrapolating that to / from mental, emotional, social, religious, " civil " venues..

~ that 5 sexes may be more adequate than just two, for describing the human body (aka ~ the " mysteries of life " as expressed in the laws of nature / biology ).

1) females
2) males
3) intersexuals

The medical community has long recognized the reality of the intersexual body within humanity.
But the standard medical literature uses the term intersex as a catch-all for three major subgroups with some mixture of male and female characteristics:
3a) ~ the so-called true hermaphrodites, who possess one testis and one ovary (the sperm- and egg-producing vessels);
3b) ~ the male pseudohermaphrodites , who have testes and some aspects of the female genitalia but no ovaries;
3c) ~ the female pseudohermaphrodites , who have ovaries and some aspects of the male genitalia but lack testes.

Each of those categories is in itself complex; the percentage of male and female characteristics, for instance, can vary enormously among members of the same group. Moreover, the inner lives of the people in each group their special needs and their problems, attractions and repulsions have gone unexplored by science. But on the basis of what is known about them I suggest that the three intersexes deserve to be considered additional sexes each in its own right. Indeed, I would argue further that sex is a vast, infinitely malleable continuum that defies the constraints of even five categories.

(The psychologist John Money of Johns Hopkins University, a specialist in the study of congenital sexual-organ variations, suggests intersexuals may constitute as many as 4 percent of births.)
