america has become soft

it seems a big problem in america is what i term "the pussification of americans" this may be a bit crude but i feel it is a growing problem affecting the choices we make in our day to day lives and ultimately makes us look to the wrong people for leadership. an example would be the way guiliani is running his campaign, almost solely playing on the fears of americans. he mentions 911 over and over again. for me the bottom line is, as horrific as 911 was it is time to move forward. instead we get speeches from candidates about how the terrorists are coming to our shopping malls next. instilling more fear. each candidate acting as if they and they alone can protect us is just hogwash. what we don't need are candidates who talk tough just to get elected. have we not had over 6 years of just this type of rhetoric? i don't know about the rest of you but i don't think about terrorism unless i see it on the news or here a candidate propagandizing it. we have many ills that need healing here in america and we the people can not go about our day to day lives in fear (like many seem to) that the terrorists are right around the corner. the slogan "no fear" should be our countries slogan. and to quote fdr in 1933 "So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself -- nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance"

Exactly. Exactly. Exactly! The only threat terrorism poses is terror. Hense the term TERRORism. So one could only logically conclude that the only REAL defense the American people, as individuals, have against terrorism is to refuse to be afraid. Not to cheapen in any way the lives of those who have died in attacks, but you're thousands of times more likely to die in a car accident. Why then do we mortally fear the very low threat of terrorism and yet we're able to bring ourselves to head out on those deadly highways every day? It's only because our media and our government have made sure through their words and actions that we are afraid. For that reason, one could now logically conclude that the media and government are, for their own self interests, the most effective catalysts of terrorism.

thank you. when people talk about being scared of another attack, frankly i get pissed off. i mean really really pissed off. do we go about our days living in fear? that is exactly what the terrorists want. i am afraid that that also is what the chicken hawks that are running our government want as well. so the problem is the current administration while talking tough about terrorism is at the same time promoting it along with fear. they can take thier color coded alerts and put them where the sun dont shine.

we are becoming pussies but we are still number 1.you can go to jail for fighting in school what the hell if you get your ass beat then you should stop eating dorito's and learn to fight.lets have gun control thats for fags which is something else we need to take care of send them to Iraq terrorists will turn them selves in.A woman president what a joke women can't run a country it will be are downfall.only old white guys can get it done right.north Korea should be bombed and so should Iran.

I've worked a lot in Manhattan, and was in Jersey City, just across the Hudson, with an excellent view of the twin towers on 9/11.
It cracks me up that the "heartland" of America is what is most swayed by the fear-mongering. What is there to be attacked? A grain silo? NYC is target # 1 because it has more Jews than any other US city, and has Wall Street, yet New Yorkers go about business and don't live in fear. They didn't vote for Bush in either 2024 or 2024. In fact, no major cities were carried by Bush - all the likely targets.

One more point - I keep hearing the twisted logic first put out by Condescending Rice -
"Well, we must be doing something right, because there hasn't been an attack on US soil since 9/11"

That is BOGUS LOGIC
Fact # 1 - The Trade Center was first bombed in '93. There wasn't a second attack until 2024. Is that because of something Clinton did? No, it's just how it went.
Fact # 2 - They are killing us in Iraq, so they don't have to kill us here. More have been killed in Iraq than were killed on 9/11, with no end in sight. They don't have to come here to attack us.
