The Real Surprise

The real surprise for this organization will be the realization, on the day after the next presidential election, that this effort was ineffectual at best and meaningless at worst.
The people here are sincere, concerned, proactive and well meaning. All of which, with a five dollar bill, will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
I'm not discouraging the effort or trying to be a naysayer. I simply realise that the tipping point has been reached in this country. We are in decline as a nation. All great civilizations eventually collapse from within and we are no different. Our success has led to complacency and indifference. The die is cast and the long term prognosis is terminal.

Bank on this; Any third party candidate will receive no more than 3% of the vote. Voter turnout will be less than 55%. Partisan fighting will continue to be an end unto itself and solutions to the country's ills will be of secondary concern to the elected.
I would really like to be wrong about this but I'm not.
So while "fighting the good fight" remains laudable, it is nonetheless a losing effort.
It is awful not only for what will be lost but this grand experiment offered us a rare opportunity to do great things and we have accomplished only a fraction of the possibilities.

In my local paper this morning, former Senator Sam Nunn had been talking to Mike Bloomberg about an independent run. What about it our there...can Unity08 support Sam Nunn? As a native Georgian, this man was a terrific Senator and a standout person. He has the brains, experience, and vision to change America.

He is all of the things you listed, but I suspect he would be better as VP, or in a cabinet position.

I'm not sure his personality is suited for what is assuredly the most egocentric job on the planet.

Yes, we are living in the modern day equivalent of Sodom and Gomorrah.

It's interesting to go back and read what two of America's past national leaders once said and believed in their heart and measure their words against the phony baloney PoliTics of today.

John Kennedy:
And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.

Martin Luther King:
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Our present society is made up of Sick-Twisted-Freaks who want for EVERYTHING yet are not willing to WORK for anything. They ask first what their country can do for THEM and they have No Character.

To them I say.....
Go get a job and STFU!

Unfortunatly I have to agree, just reading the forum threads on the site shows that there is no concensus or real desire to unite. If we really want change we all have to work together and that seems unlikely.

Change purely for the sake of change would be a good thing. As it stands right now our government wants to support those who wont on the backs of those who will, provide for the people who make poor (stupid) decisions, with the resources garnered by those who reason and plan to limit bad choices.

I may not agree with your position on ---- anything, but I would work with you for change.

Somebody gimme some hope.

Common sense - the cure for stupid!
