The Colbert Report

We've been promoting our own Doug Bailey and his appearance on Comedy Central’s, “The Colbert Report,” tonight. And, to generate more buzz, we launched a humorous poll to find out whether or not the Unity08 delegation believes that Colbert should run for president.

The poll can be seen here by clicking here.

A handful of members have questioned why we've gone to this extent with a person that is not a legitimate candidate. The answer is simple. This is buzz marketing that targets viewers or fans of Stephen Colbert. Mr. Colbert has joked about "not" running for president. This tactic plays on that long-running statement by allowing members and non-members to vote in a poll about whether he should run. Non-members must register with Unity08 in order to vote.

Any new member registration allows us to start carrying a conversation with that member. It allows us to communicate what Unity08 is trying to accomplish and, hopefully, gets us closer to our membership goals.

This buzz marketing tactic is not intended to promote a candidacy or the legitimacy of a particular candidate.

Colbert's viewers are amongst the most-informed about national issues, and he gets more than a million of them watching each night.

Feel free to read the Pew Research study that explains this, click here.

What do you think?

His balls

YES

... and if this is NOT serious, then I will unregister again!

When you read the synopsis of the Pew research that was done on how informed the typical United Statesman of America is of domestic politics and political figures, it's terribly disheartening. This goes to show you that a vast majority of voters in major elections are nigh completely uninformed about the candidates and the issues. I suppose these people just vote along party lines without question. It's a pretty bleak look at the people of our nation.

I just finished watching my recording of Doug's interview last night. Although Unity08 got plenty of PR, and taking into consideration the natural nervousness of being interviewed by Stephen Colbert on his popular show, I was still disappointed and slightly amazed that Doug did not get the main point of Unity08's unique difference from the two major political parties - that ours will be a bipartisan ticket - until the very end of the interview! Even then, it was hurriedly shoved in and passed over. I don't think a casual viewer would have even noticed or heard.

I'm not saying it was Doug's fault - but a good opportunity was missed to tell America that ours will be a unique, bipartisan ticket! - whether the two candidates will be a mixture of Republican, Democrat, Independent, Green - or "other"!

...we got the message, it did not be hammered in; although redundancy seems to help the average American.

However one other comment: This "movement" belongs in a comedy show ;)
Centrist party? Isn't that what the Dems are? No wait- they too are right from the center. So where does this put 08? Left from the Dems?

Why cant stephen colbert be a "legitimate" Candidate? Please explain a little more on that...

WhAt?? Stephen is an illegitimate candidate? Since when?? Ahem? What??? Are you kidding me? what's he missing? I do believe he is a registered voter of the United States, thus a US citizen, and I also believe he is over 35. What about Stephen says that he is not legitimate???? I will MAKE him a legitimate candidate!!!
