Take care with assigning averages to individuals

posted by hugoh on September 14, 2024 - 7:52am

Today I received an email from Unity08 that spelled out four things that I allegedly believe. Averages taken from a survey do not mean those averages are concepts that I as an individual hold to be valid. Of the four items I disagree with two - that's half of them, by the way. I found the tone of the email condescending and by its very nature exclusionary.

Give some thought to what you say if you want to be taken seriously. Or if you want money, which was the whole point of the mailing.

Unity08's approach to building an "American Agenda" is simply to go with the average, not with what each delegate has to offer. I keep asking them how can they be so certain the average represents the right course to follow?

I, and others, have told them that people will be bringing their own individual concerns into the voting booth, shouldn't we try and find out what those concerns are and work to address them?

Unity08's leadership approach to agenda-building is really no different than the other two major political parties. We lead, you give us money. We had hoped it would be different. We had hoped for once, finally, there was somebody who would be listening to its members and organized to bring each delegates' voice to the table. Sure, some would have to compromise on their issues, but at least their issues would be addressed.

Like you, my most pressing personal issue wasn't even mentioned, that is the federal income tax. I believe many, many people, if give a chance, would have put that at the top of the list. I know it will be there come election time. But someone at Unity08 didn't seem to want to address the income tax issue.

They say the proof is in the pudding. Judging from their low membership count, the average American already knows far more about Unity08 than the leadership realizes or is prepared to confront.

"Literary embelishment" can not be applied to the true.
A representative statement of a fact is true enough especially when it reflects belief.

So which concepts do you not agree with? How can we address disagreements if we don't know what they are?

Phil, I'm not debating my beliefs. I'm pointing out a marketing error based on mistaken assumptions. Exactly which items I disagree with would require a different thread.

The answer is in:I agree Hugoh Vote:FAQ.

Have you been keeping an eye on Bob Roth's explanation of what "N" means in the survey:Total N?

It seems the "random" pick was not drawn from the total number responding. We havern't been able to get Bob to tells us how big the two sections were. But the random pick was only taken from one secion.
