From the initial qualifying round, there could be up to 10 presidential candidates going into the final qualifying round. If the 10 candidates are required to name their vice presidential running mate, that would seem to remove--or at least seriously limit--the possibility of any eliminated presidential candidates being available as a vice presidential candidate. I suppose the final provision allowing presidential candidates to "realign" their ticket with a new vice president is designed to enable that. But wouldn't it also mean that the presidential candidates would initially choose a vice president they really don't want, and then dump that person in a subsequent round in order to get their preferred running mate. Or am I missing something?
