In this age of nano this and nano that, seeing how our local star is the ultimate source of energy in our neighborhood, and all other energy we seem to be able to get our hands on, somehow is originated from our local star - Solaris - none of the bio energy stuff will be more than a stepping stone, if that. Burnign stuff with oxygen always makes an oxide, such as hydrogen dioxide. Just an IDEA: Several years ago my eldest son dreamed of doing nuclear engineering at amoung other places NC State University. We did the orientation / registration / tour / etc.. to see the place. They let us look into their reactor, which was full of water, with an erie blue light down in the depths. The guy in charge said it was caused by gama rays from the fission process knocking electrons off the water molecules. It would seem that we could build some nano structure which could be inserted into a reactor such that electrons could be knocked from the first nano object onto the second. thus making an electric current, sort of like the old atomic batteries of long ago, except this would operate more durably and efficently due to its nano-ness. Perhaps this would also make the process of generating electricity with reactor power much more efficient,
and less dangerous, since the reactors could possibly run cooler. We could use the few N plants we have left to replace the oil and gas (C02 producers) we have used to replace reactors.

Yeah, considering I here this same idea being posted on UFO forums of other sites, I believe the only way to attain the necessary technology to do as you are describing would, in fact, be to wait for another UFO to crash and reverse engineer it, or wait thousands of years 'till we develop this technology ourselves, in which case it will be too late to do anything about global warming.

WITH NO POWER GROWING THEIR OWN GROC....ETC ETC.. BUT THEY SUPPORT ALL THE GRAND IDEALS THAT WILL PUT THEM THERE
The nuclear reactor's minute glow is a fraction of the heat energy released in the nuclear reaction. We are already harnessing as much energy as we can from these reactors. If we put any sort of "NANO-NESS" in any area exposed to gama-radiation, it would be mostly destroyed within minutes if not seconds.
