There is no shortage of people actively running for President. What we do have is a shortage of viable candidates that have already made a commitment to the centrist views of Unity08. Right now we have wish lists and possibilities.
I remember in years past that prominent figures in various states would run as Favorite Sons. That means, for instance, that a former Governor of a particular state would run for President against the major party candidates in their state. The reason for doing this, among others, is to secure the electoral votes to use in the most benenficial way for their state. Now if that individual was well-liked or had enough credibility, they could beat both the Democratic or Republican candidate. In a close race there might be advantages to that sort of strategy.
I would like to suggest that Unity08 encourage prominent individuals to run as Favorite Sons. In fact, I would go so far as to say that we ought to send out Unity08 Letters of Introduction to all the current candidates, as well as other figures across the country encouraging them to seek their state's vote and invite them to seek the support of Unity08.
Now, I am not sure how that would fit in with our current rules. Maybe others in this forum can enlighten me as to how that might work with our current rules. I would sure like to hear from others how this sort of strategy might be implemented to get a variety of candidates to run in their own state and be willing to work within our framework for narrowing the field.
How could a Favorite Son strategy be implemented or be beneficial in getting support for a Unity08 final candidate?
I think that is exactly the right strategy for a third party win. A popular middle America governor/congressman/whoever could capture 50 electoral votes with a centrist agenda and put the election into Congress.
I dont know how to win in Congress yet, but if we understood the process, this story can be realized.
Now that I'm comprehending your late summer posts, I appreciate them.
