Politicians say they aren't running all the time only to change their mind later because they know they CAN and are just trying to see what the real grassroots support is for their candidacy. Those people would never ask to be taken off the ballot early. The ones who would formally go tthrough with getting removed are the ones who truly don't want to be involved in our movement.
No means no, if a prospective candidate really wants to be removed, let him or her go through with it. Honor their request and make it clear that they can not, under any circumstance, be added back in during that same election. The one's who are just trying to see how many will rise up and support them will say no but not make the official request; the ones who truly want out will get out using their own free will.
Let anyone who is unwilling make a written statement to that effect, with the understanding that the decision is irreversible. Then post to the website the list of people ineligible for drafting.

Written request stating No means no and is irreversible.
I could also support a written request by a potential candidate to be categorized as "undecided" for a specified period of time. In other words, we could list all potential candidates as being in one of 4 categories:
* Yes, written statement stating person is willing to be the Unity08 Candidate for President
* No, written statement stating person is unwilling to be the Unity08 Candidate for President (irreversible)
* Undecided, written statement stating person is undecided about being the Unity08 Candidate for President and will clarify position as Yes or No in a specified period of time (say 30 days) and in any case by June 2024.
* No comment - no written statement from the candidate
