Who elected the Rules Committee?

I am a little confused over the creation of the Rules Committee. While I am sure they are all nice people, who elected them? If they were appointed, by whom? Who is the great and powerful OZ among us, already welding a dictatorial wand?

I hate to be a bore on this typic, but shouldn't the Rules Committee have been simply an open forum, with some sort of voting icon off to the side of each comment or propsed rule, giving each registered delegate an opportunity to assign a yes, no, or some sort of netural vote, together with the ability to readdress their votes later to possibile change them? Then these fine people who now, somehow, have gotten themselves appointed to the Rules Committee, can participate in this organization just like the rest of us?

Is there a Credential Committee? I mean, how do we even know the members of the Rule Committee are even registered delegates?

We had an open forum (and received terrific feedback) on the proposed convention rules earlier this spring. The comments were closed several weeks ago, but the archives are on-line and can be accessed through the Shoutbox. We also sponsored a lively Rules chat a month or two ago, the transcript of which is also available. The response in both cases exceeded our expectations and there will be more -- and more frequent -- opportunities like these in the future.

The Rules Committee itself was appointed by Unity08's founders when we launched.

The rules comments still aren't closed, actually -- a full month after Unity08 committed to closing. I just posted to them, and others have been as well, which you could ascertain with a simple check. Details, schmeetails. I suggest you get a handle on them before you start trying to run presidential elections.

David, your questions are good ones, and you deserve more of an answer to them than the Unity08 leadership is providing. They get to the heart of the question about whether Unity08's highfalutin language matches its actual behavior.

I need to know what the members of the Rules Committee are thinking.

What should the rules for nominating potential candidates include?

How should they be enacted with respect to the whole organization - what role should the delegates have in defining such rules or adopting rules?

Beware! The Devil is always in the details. The rules committee seems to have too dangerous a connection to DC and insiders to the political scene as it presently stands.

I suggest a prescreening of candidates open to ALL - Details of such a prescreening could include the following submissions:
Resume - Education, Employment, Statement of Candidacy, Significant Achievements
Answers to questions from other candidates and Unity08
Comments on answers from Unity08

Finally a selection process of the top 20.
