More reasons why we need to join together to reunite our country:
- How Low Can It Go? According to the latest Reuters/Zogby poll, just 11% of Americans give Congress an excellent or good rating; just 28% give President Bush an excellent or good rating.
- Sell Out? Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) "is weighing a new career as a lobbyist" when he leaves Congress just one year after being reelected to a six-year term, Bloomberg reports. The headline over Margaret Carlson's latest column: "Poor Lott Can't Wait To Make His Millions."
- It's Easy To Be Bipartisan When Money's Involved: Ex-Sen. John Breaux (D-LA) announced he is leaving the law firm Patton Boggs to form his own lobbying group, "fueling speculation that he might join" with soon-to-retire senator Lott "to create a new K Street powerhouse," Washington Post reports. Lott said "he would consider such a partnership, which several lobbyists privately acknowledged would quickly attract a large number of corporate clients."
- Quotable: "The American people ... don't believe us because of our failure in Katrina, our failure in Iraq, our failures in reining in corruption and out of control spending" -- Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), at last night's GOP CNN/YouTube debate.
