Unity08 Online Privacy Statement (October 31, 2024)
Unity08 is committed to protecting the personal information that you provide when using the Unity08 Site. This Online Privacy Statement describes how we treat all participant data collected during your visit to the Unity08 Site, both anonymous data and personally-identifying data.
Unity08 may occasionally update this Statement. We will post any changes on this Web page, so be sure to check back periodically. If we do make material changes, we will post a notice on our home page that the Online Privacy Statement has been modified and provide a link to the revised Online Privacy Statement. Any information that you submit after a change has been posted will be subject to the new provisions.
Types of Data We Collect
We collect two types of user data: (1) anonymous data that is automatically collected from all visitors to the Unity08 Site; and (2) personally-identifiable data that you voluntarily submit to us (described below under "Personal Data").
Anonymous Data. We automatically collect Internet Protocol addresses and domain names through our server and through cookies. (See the section on Cookies below for more information.) We also track the number and frequency of hits per page on an aggregate basis.
Personal Data. We may collect Personal Data that you voluntarily provide, such as your name and postal address, phone number, e-mail address, and similar information, when you participate in certain activities on the Unity08 Site, including (but not limited to) when you:
- Register and/or participate in any Delegate, Online Convention or Nomination process that requires your Personal Data.
- Join or contribute or volunteer for activities of Unity08;
- Make any additional contributions to support the work of Unity08;
- Sign up for our Unity08 e-mail updates;
- Send correspondence to public officials or others through the Unity08 Site;
- Order items from the Unity08 store;
- Register for our message boards or other communication and information sharing forums;
- Participate in one of our online surveys;
- Participate in any activity that requires your Personal Data; or
If you join the Unity08 activities or make a donation to the Unity08 from a web site link, we may also identify the source of that link, so that we can evaluate what content is motivating Web users to contact, participate in, and/ or contribute to the Unity08.
Unity08 may be required to disclose information regarding its contributions to comply with campaign finance laws.
Cookies
When you view the Unity08 Site, we might store some information on your computer. This information will be in the form of a "cookie" or similar file. We collect some data through the use of cookies. Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that are transferred either to your computer's hard drive ("Long-term Cookies") or temporarily to your computer's Random Access Memory ("Session Cookies"). Cookies do not spy on you or otherwise invade your privacy, and they cannot invade your hard drive and steal information. Rather, they help you navigate a Web site as easily as possible. We use cookies to deliver content specific to your interests and to prevent you from reentering all your registration data at each connection.
If we use an outside advertisement server company to display ads on our site. These ads may contain cookies. The advertisement server company may collect cookies received with outside banner ads. We may not have acess to information that would confirm the use of cookies by any advertisement server company.
The Unity08 Site may contain links to other Web sites. Unity08 is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such Web sites including, without limitation, their use of cookies.
We use Long-term Cookies only when you select a "remember" option on the Unity08 Site, for example the "remember my login" option offered when you log on to the Unity08 Site, or the "remember me" option offered on the Feedback or Survey, or any other special information and participation pages. If you select these options, a Long-term Cookie will be stored on your computer's hard drive solely for the purpose of automatically filling in the remembered information, for example, automatically filling in your password when you log in to the Unity08 Site or your postal address when you write a letter to a public official. These "remember" options are offered only for your convenience and are completely voluntary. If you do not select a "remember" option, no Long-Term Cookie will be stored on your computer's hard drive.
We use Session Cookies whenever you visit the Unity08 Site to run the Site's interactive applications, such as the online contribution or volunteer forms. Session Cookies last only as long as your session on the Unity08 Site. They expire when the session ends and are not written onto your computer's hard drive. We also use Session Cookies in e-mails containing the HTML-format Unity08 online newsletter. If you select "text-only" format for the online newsletters or bulletins or other action communications, it will not contain any Session Cookies.
How We Use The Data We Collect
We use anonymous data to identify the source of user traffic (for example, anyuniversity.edu, or aol.com), but we are not able to use this data to identify individual users. We use data on which sections of the Unity08 Site are most visited, so that we can evaluate the popularity of our different Web pages and continue to improve the Unity08 Site. We do not link any anonymous data with the Personal Data you provide to us.
We use your Personal Data for various purposes:
- To fulfill the request for which you specifically provided the data;
- To send you our e-mail newsletter, political updates and action alerts, if you have not opted out of receiving that information;
- To personalize the content that you see based on the activities and products that you have selected on the Unity08 Site;
- To allow you to set and change user preferences;
- To offer you other ways to support Unity08, including, in some limited cases, solicitations for additional contributions; and
- To confirm your contribution to Unity08.
Consequently, we may use your Personal Data to deliver to you information about Unity08 and other third party promotional materials from others, trend analysis, pattern detection, and site administration. Your information may also be used to contact you when necessary and may be shared with other third parties that may want to contact you with offers consistent with your stated preferences. Users may opt-out of receiving future mailings from Unity08 and other entities by following the instructions set forth in the opt-out section below.
Non-personal demographic and profile data is used to tailor your experience at our site, showing you content we think you might be interested in. The information may also be shared with advertisers on an aggregate non-personal basis.
Unity08 may also use your IP Address to help diagnose problems with our server, and to administer our Web site.
The Unity08 Site is hosted by servers in the United States. Accordingly, if you are located outside of the United States, the Personal Data you provide to us will be transferred to the United States. By submitting your Personal Data, you consent to its transfer and storage in the United States and its use in accordance with the purposes for which it was originally collected (see below regarding third-party sharing of Personal Data from non-U.S. residents).
If you are a U.S. resident, we may also from time to time combine your Personal Data with some publicly available data collected from third parties, to improve our services to you and for our own internal marketing, communications, and fundraising purposes.
Third-Party Providers
We may share your Personal Data with third-party service providers who may on occasion contact you on our behalf, or facilitate some other aspect of the Unity08 Site activities, services or actions, including those providers we use to assist us in our own fundraising and organizing efforts. They have no access to and are contractually prohibited from sharing any of your Personal Data regarding delegate selection, selection of nominees, survey results and all other political information with any other third parties.
If you are a U.S. resident and a participant in Unity08, we also share your Personal Data with our organizers and communications staff in order to permit them to contact you regarding any local activities we think may interest you, if you have not opted out of receiving this information.
We may also share the Personal Data of participants in Unity08 who are U.S. residents with other non-profit organizations and publications, but never to either the Democratic or Republican Parties or to any of their campaign committees, nor to groups whose programs are incompatible with Unity08 policies. We never give your Personal Data directly to the other organizations; instead we send the list to a third-party service provider that prepares the mailing for the organization (and that is contractually bound to use your Personal Data only for this purpose and not to share it with any other third parties). The other organizations never see our list and never know what names are on it unless you respond to that other organization’s mailing. Exchanging lists enables Unity08 to expand our participant base.
Finally, we may disclose and use Personal Data regardless of where you reside in special circumstances when it is necessary to enforce our User Agreement or this Online Privacy Statement, or when we, in good faith, believe that the law requires us to disclose your Personal Data to third parties.
Your Ability to Choose
When you provide us with your Personal Data on the Unity08 Site, you can let us know that you do not wish to receive our e-mail newsletter or any e-mailed action alerts by un-checking the subscription request boxes on the form you are completing, by un-checking the subscription request boxes on our User Preference Page.
The ability to opt out of Unity08 e-mail alerts is available by visiting this link and entering your email address. Unsubscribe options will also continue to be available on all email communications.
Children
We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13.
Security
The Personal Data we collect about you is stored on a secure, password protected server. We use industry-standard encryption technologies with respect to the receipt and transfer of Personal Data you submit to us on the Unity08 Site and only authorized personnel have access to your information. Nevertheless, despite our taking all reasonable steps to insure the safety of your personal information, no transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Consequently, we cannot nor do we commit to providing your Personal Data "perfect security."
Changes to this Privacy Policy
Unity08 will revise or update this policy if our practices change, or as we develop better ways to keep you informed and involved. You should refer back to this page for the latest information and the effective date of any changes. If the policy is changed, we will post a new policy on the Unity08 Site and change the date to indicate when it was last modified. Changes to the policy shall not apply retroactively.

Correct; Update
Unity08 allows its users the option to change or modify information previously provided. This may be done through the following methods:
- visit the "My Account" section of the Site and edit your profile.
- e-mail your information changes to info@unity08.com.
Unfortunately, to the extent that such information is also stored in other databases, we cannot always ensure that such corrections or deletions will reach the other databases. We will use all reasonable efforts to ensure taht your information is removed from or corrected in our records.
Choice; Opt-Out
You may opt-out of receiving communications from those with whom we share your Personal Data, and from Unity08, by sending an email to info@unity08.com.
Public Forums
This Site makes chat rooms, forums, message boards, and/or news groups available to its users. Please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.
