Many people argue against abortion, because they say the government doesn't have the right to say what women can do with their bodies. That violates Liberty, and the government is meant to protect "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".
However, if abortions are allowed to continue, we will not be protecting the right of the unborn. They have a right to Life, and that comes before liberty.
Some people argue that the unborn don't have a right to life, as they are not living things. The Supreme Court ruled that they weren't living in Roe v. Wade, and many people cite this as evidence that the unborn aren't human beings with rights.
However, back in the 1800s, the Supreme Court ruled in the Dred Scott case that African-Americans weren't people, and said they were just property. We all know now that that is not true. The Supreme Court was wrong about African-Americans, and they are wrong about the Unborn.
The Unity08 candidate should honor the founding prinicpals of protecting "LIFE, Liberty, and the Pursuit to Happiness", by passing a constitutional amendment restricting abortion in cases other than to save the womans life.
(Many pro-abortion groups say it needs to stay legal to protect a woman's health, yet they don't support an amendment that would allow abortion only when the woman is in danger, because they are hypocrites. They also say it should be legal in case a woman is raped, yet they do little to increase punishment for rapists).
