Voter turnout is considerably lower here than in many other countries. Many cite public cynicism, negative campaign tactics, lack of accountability of public officials, and the fact that many who could run don't because of the predictable invasion of their privacy. Proposed reforms include: Sunday voting, public campaign financing, term limits, an end to gerrymandered district lines, and abolition or reform of the Electoral College.
