There were 3000 registered lobbyists in D.C. in the early ‘90s; there are over 30,000 today. Their fundraising for Members of Congress raises a host of related issues as to whether Members are more accountable to lobbyists than their own constituents. Among the issues are lobbyist-paid travel, former Members with floor access becoming lobbyists, and pork-barrel spending for earmarks.
