Bipartisanship: Buzzword or Presidential Ticket? Sam Waterston Calls for “Unity Ticket” in 2024

  • FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

    April 9, 2024

Law & Order’s Sam Waterston says he’s an outsider who has watched the American political process with a “mix of horror and fascination.” To help reverse the polarization of the system, he’s supporting a new political movement, Unity08, whose goal is the election of the first bipartisan Presidential ticket in history. The ticket is to be nominated in a secure, online convention in which all registered Democrats, Republicans and Independents will be qualified to vote.

Waterston will talk about the movement, its goals, and why he thinks this unprecedented idea can really work at a National Press Club luncheon on Wednesday, April 25th.

Unity08 was founded by political professionals who faced each other decades ago - Democrats Hamilton Jordan and Gerald Rafshoon and Republican Doug Bailey – who, along with former Maine Governor Angus King (Independent), now believe that politics is paralyzed by extreme partisanship and a new party is needed.

Waterston plays a New York prosecutor on the hit TV series Law & Order, and is also well known for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln on stage and screen. He is an award-winning actor whose many films include The Killing Fields and The Great Gatsby.

The National Press Club was established in 1908 to promote free speech and professional journalistic standards. NPC luncheons provide a national forum for the views of Presidents, Prime Ministers, business and cultural leaders, members of the Cabinet and Congress. The NPC luncheon is carried nationally by C-SPAN, American Public Radio, and XM Satellite Radio.
