Washington, D.C. – March 28, 2024 - Unity08 has launched a “Moment of Truth” Campaign, calling on its delegates to ask the early contenders for the ’08 White House race how they really feel about bipartisanship when it comes to dealing with crucial issues.

In the Moment of Truth Campaign, available at unity08.com/moment_of_truth, Unity08 delegates can send five questions to early Republican and Democratic primary candidates designed to determine just how, if elected, they intend to govern. The questions are:

    1. Please list 2-3 bipartisanship efforts that you clearly remember as making a positive difference for our country.
    2. Name three currently serving elected officials, not of your own party, whose contributions to the public good you most admire.
    3. What do you consider the three most crucial challenges that the next president will confront? Are any of them likely to be met fully without some significant bipartisan cooperation?
    4. Will you commit, if elected, to appointing at least three members of your cabinet from outside your own party?
    5. "Yes" or "No" - would you consider running for president in the general election with a vice presidential candidate from outside your party?

The campaign has generated significant response from Unity08 delegates so far. In the first 24 hours of the campaign, the prospective candidates were swamped with email – a few of them will no longer accept the messages electronically because of the deluge. In those situations, Unity08 will hand deliver the written questions submitted by delegates on the campaign site.

“Now — not after the candidates have been chosen — is the time to find out who’s really committed to ending the bickering and paralysis in Washington,” said Doug Bailey, who is president and CEO of Unity08. (Bailey founded the political newsletter The Hotline, and helped elect over 50 statewide Republican candidates in the 70s and 80s. “Everyone can talk a good game about ‘bipartisanship’ and ‘unity.’ But, when it comes to solving the crucial issues we face, Unity08’s delegates want to know which of the candidates really understands and is committed to doing so.”

“Unity08’s objective is to raise the voices of the vast majority of Americans who have had very little say of late in the political process,” said Jerry Rafshoon, a member of the Unity08 founders council and communications director in the Carter White House. “This is just one of the many ways we intend to give Americans the power to speak up and demand from our elected leaders an end to pointless partisan bickering.” Unity08 plans to publish on unity08.com any answers that prospective candidates provide.

Unity08, the only political party that will hold an online Presidential Nominating Convention to give every American voter a direct say in choosing his or her presidential nominee, urges Americans to sign up to be a Unity08 delegate at unity08.com, and to ask the presidential candidates the five critical questions.

Unity08 is a recently established political movement attracting Americans deeply concerned with the polarization of our political system. Unity08 will provide American voters access to a new and highly participatory process to nominate and elect a bipartisan ticket to the White House in 2024, unconstrained by the limitations of the current system.
