Let me start with the obligatory -- but nonetheless important -- disclaimer: The Unity08 ticket will be selected by Unity08’s delegates in next June’s first-ever on-line convention. The founders of this movement are not endorsing or advocating for any particular potential candidates.
That said, when news like this comes along, it’s definitely worth sharing. On Sunday’s “Face the Nation,” Chuck Hagel, a Republican Senator from Nebraska, spoke openly about being “hijacked” by its extreme elements and pointedly stated that a third party choice for President in 2024 would be good for the country.
I have no idea if Chuck Hagel will run for President next year, if he’d seek the U08 nomination if he does run, or if Unity08’s delegates would be inclined to nominate him. But it’s refreshing to hear a leader in Washington speaking frankly about the failures of his own party and the potential of an entirely new third force on American politics. The whole interview is worth checking out, and can be found here.

He would be a good choice. And Eleanor Clift sourced her information about Unity08 feeling out Bloomberg from somewhere....

I just want to clarify our policy on discussions with potentials candidates. We don't target or single out anyone and appraoch them with feelers or any kind of direct or indirect contact. Our stated aim is for anyone who wants to seek the U08 nomination to have that opportunity-- with no interference (or egging on) from us.
That said, we've also made it clear that any prospective candidate who requests to sit down and talk with us about what we're doing will be accommodated -- and we've provided numerous briefings to such people as they have requested them. Our policy is to treat these sessions as private and confidential and not to divulge the names of anyone we've had contact with, out of respect for the potentially sensitive situations some of these leaders might face in seeking us out publicly. Whether they choose to reveal that a meeting took place is solely their call -- not ours.
Did she make it up (Unity08 putting out feelers to Michael Bloomberg)in her story?

Is that a written policy?
Niether U08 reps or candidates should act publicly together at this time. Without some positive discussion carefully engaged niether would know the value of going forward. We won't have "name brand" candidates going public before March 2024 and they have other public activities until them, as they should.
Bill"for what we are together"
He has always come across as an honest, common sense public servant. I like his independence.
We must walk before we run! As Joe used the Independent flag so will several others. Don't get me wrong I am for Chuck Hagel and would drop and do 50 if he were our candidate! However, it is my gut that we must radicalize the nation with a protectionist to stimulate the working man once more in America just like they did in France! NO WALL NO AMNESTY! NO AMNESTY NO WALL! And by the way - well paid workers spend money and poor workers do not! - LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC! - Earn Snyder

As a concerned citizen I've devised what I believe is a legitimate way to win the war in Iraq. It is partisan agnostic, US'centric, and would be immediately effective in radically reducing US casualties, war-fighting costs, and increase US control.

Chuck Hagel would make and excellent candidate. He has from the beginning gone after this adminstration on this lie of a War. His own party has disowned him. He is a man who puts country above party. He served as an infantry rifemen in Viet Nam on the Delta in 1968. A man of courage and integrity.
Chuck Hagel would be great as a third party candidate, but ostensibly what real chance does he have, not really a question, it's more of a statement. I would love a third choice but as of now, the system is so stacked against a third party run for the White House that a structural change is needed within the country.
It's interesting. Even this guy is pretty far right, I don't know there's just something "not Bush" about him that even a left-leaning moderate like myself can appreciate.
Here's a great video link that quickly summarizes Fred Thomson on the issues:

Check out my favorite political forum!
Check out all you links, don't dislike thompson but a bit too far right for me. Hagel is someone to watch but need to look into his position on issues to make a decision. Did join you political forum. Maybe I can some good into from there. Hubby gonna kill for getting involved in another forum LOL.

Hagel is a Sell-out Open Borders Advocate! Too closely tied to Bush and Kennedy! America doesn't want this kind of Special Interests mentality any longer. They are actually destroying our country... all so that their Elitist friends can continue to have their cheap labor... at the cost of American workers and American jobs.
Don't be misled! He has SAID we "need to remain in Iraq" He thinks we should have permanent bases there, too. HE IS NOT GOING TO ABANDON THE CORPORATE GRAVY TRAIN!
Everybody is a special interest. We all have a particular bias or selfish desire we want promoted. Everybody that shakes the hand of the President wants something. Jimmy Carter tried to fight the special interests by presenting himself as an outsider and failed miserably and eventually had to bring insiders into his administration.
This movement is not about eliminating the special interests - it is about balance and eliminating the lunatic fringe. Chuck Hagel is not about eliminating specials interests, he is about providing a logical and reasonable balance. If all special interests were eliminated, we would have no citizens in out country. Special interests are the people that get environmental laws passed, national parks created, business to have balanced regulation, and much of the progress in our country. AND, this movement - like it or not - is also a special interest.
If I had to compare Chuck Hagel to another American president, it would probably be Gerald R. Ford. Hagel's laid back facade masks his conviction and honesty. Like Ford, he is a man of conviction from the heartland of the country. I can hear the innaugeration speech now, "My fellow Americans, out long national nightmare is over. The lunatic fringe is no longer in control of America."
One of my blogs speaks about the Hagel presidency in generalities and what he'll need to do to win.

Hagel may lack the hype factor present with many candidates, but true to his Midwestern values he is more about substance than flash.
Hagel is on the wrong side of the main two issues, War in Iraq and Illegal Immigration. He was one of the minority yeas for amnesty yesterday and like McCain this will end up costing him dearly if he decides to run, which I don't think he will. As a matter of fact his vote yesterday could end up costing him the seat he already has if he runs for re-election.
Of the current GOP field you have two choices, Ron Paul or one of the other guys since they are pretty much interchangable.
I would take either as the President and the other as the Vice President.
