Here is an interview with Aaron Russo based on his new film that is just starting to make it's way into theaters called "America: From Freedom to Fascism". In it he explains how there is absolutely no law stating that we must pay an income tax, and explains the fraudulent beginnings of the Federal Reserve and the IRS. These he says, are the true agencies we must overthrow in order to get America back on track. This along with the documentary that johngelles suggested in another thread called the Corporation seems to be excellent starting points for reforming this corrupt and fraudlent system.

    Aaron Russo Interview

15 Minute Trailer for "America: From Freedom to Fascism"

Primary objectives from the movie's website
    * Stop the polarization of America
    * Stop the domination of the Democratic and Republican parties over our political system
    * Shut down the Federal Reserve system
    * Return America's gold to Fort Knox and have it audited
    * Have Congress and the IRS, in a public forum, reveal the law that requires Americans to pay a direct, unapportioned tax on their labor.
    * Make computerized voting illegal in all 50 states
    * Keep the internet free and out of the control of large institutions
    * Rescind the law called the Real ID Act so Americans never have to carry a National ID Card
    * Make it illegal to implant RFID chips in human beings
    * Educate juries to the fact that they have the right to determine the law as well as the facts of a case
    * Educate juries to the fact that they are not obligated to follow the instructions of a judge
    * Stop Globalization because it is the path to a one world government
    * Protect our borders
    * Restore the environment
    * Put an end to the Patriot Act
    * Sign up millions of Americans so we can accomplish our objectives

Sounds good to me..and seems to be fairly in line with unity08.

I think the Ls, Rs, Ds, and Gs will all try to be centerist looking for the next few years.
Some of the Ls history is romantic anarchy to me. So, I want to recognize the gov't is essential and necessarily more complicated than the Ls are willing to accept.

The appeal to liberty at home does need renewal in the wake of the current regime.

Bill713, I think we would end up in agreement on a lot of our points. When I show some support for libertarianism, I do not mean it to be my wholesale subscribed belief system. I would never give up independent thought for the group thought that comes from subscribing yourself to any one political group (or religious for that matter).

I simply meant to point out that in the spirit of unity, the libertarians seem to offer a strong foundation in which to build from. I do not agree with all their points, but a system that promotes small government and individual liberty and freedom, seems to be a good balance between the current liberal and conservative viewpoints.

For unity (and truely anything else) to succeed, it must not be taken over by a single group or belief system, but instead in the name of plurality, must take what's best from a wide array of viewpoints and belief systems to create a "middle path" which unites a majority. And as I've said before, this middle path will hopefully be a paradigm shift from what we currently have. If we do not make some kind of evolutianary leap in our cultural and social thought, I'm scared we'll never get out of our current situation.

Libertarianism is extermist relative to centerist (even radical centerist) in this country today.

The mass of centerist that will win this country back for the voters are the ones that wake up to something that quite SIMPLY makes sense and can safely be acted upon right now. These are the people that have 'zoned-out' on the talking heads of right and left. We can talk about tax reform or other issues...but first we have to actually talk about the issue....not just get in some rhetorical chorus of one preconcieved philosophical bias or another. The waking gaint that will take this movement forward could 'zone-out' on us just as easily.

This is not a process for revolution; this is a process of reposession.

I think that for many people, a "radical" new social thought process is necessary to truly turn the country around. Granted, pragmatism tells us we must not loose sight of the small practical steps... but isn't a radical new view essential to any kind of true reform/paradigm shift.

All the tools necessary for us to turn our democracy around have been with us for some time. All we've ever needed to do is live up to the founding ideals that our history has so eloquently lay out for us. Is it not just life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?! With all our "technology" and "economic development" are we anywhere close to these three basic rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? It just doesn't feel like we're living at the maximum of our potential.

Sure, things are not horrible, but are they not getting worse?

Extremism has taken over every culture from America to the Middle East. In the US, it has taken over our capitalistic democracy. We are now present with two options of elite ruling class who appear to be highly polarized, but are actually both outgrowths of a narrowly defined path.

Centrism is the key, but if our centrism isn't radical, it will quickly fall to the overwhelming power of our current organized establishment

As has been quoted: "The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them." Einstein's words ring true as always.

So Bill thinks libertarians are extremists. Unusual to be sure .. and not very accurate.

Libertarians were Liberals in the original sense of the term of the 18th century, that is when England reformed their government and placed the power of the law in the hands of parliament and not the king.

Libertarians hold to the wisdom of our orginal founders in constitutional law and limited government.

Libertarians, unlike the democrats, don't want the contents of your walets/purses.. they believe in personal liberty and property.

Liberarians, unlike republicans, don't want to police your bedroom and set your morals, they believe in freedom.

Libertarians want a balanced budget, and smaller government. If the grants, special earmarks, and unnecessary subsidies, and similar funded legislation were removed, then corruption disappears as well.

Libertarians have already done what Unity08 aspires to do, that is: offer a balanced, moderate, centrist position on issues that effect most americans.

Bill, instead of spreading mis-information, try to at least allow people to educate themselves to what is already available.

    Bill713 on August 7, 2024 - 3:16pm

I can sympathize with several of these issue but really do not think this is even close the U08 movement objectives. What is "revolutionary" is the process for getting good candidates for office that can acknowledge and pursue the interest of the vast majority of moderates in the country without carrying extremest or special interest baggage. However "rigtheous" libretarians maybe, to that majority, they are extremest.

Apparently Aaron Russo is a strong libertarian. The republican/libertarian senator Ron Paul is interviewed extensively in the film. The more I hear about libertarianism, the more I like it.
