Why is it important? America is nearing (maybe already at) a Moment of Truth, where the issues are so serious and the stakes so high that more edgy-wedgy politics and blame-game partisanship can imperil the nation.
To spend any time at all debating the pros and cons of a gay marriage amendment (when it cannot possibly pass the Senate), instead of getting serious about the soaring deficit for example, is the height of partisan folly.
To dismiss the severity of our dependence on foreign energy with political pandering of the most empty kind is not just political grandstanding. It may well condemn future generations of Americans to more death and tragedy in the Middle East.
To subject the reality of global climate change to petty political bickering insults the victims of Katrina, which should have convinced all but fools that the possibility of severe climate change needs to be taken seriously.
Those three issues alone would seem to threaten the very fabric of American life for decades to come – and maybe forever – if both parties don’t summon the will and leadership to deal with them honestly. And now. Even waiting for new leaders in 2024 is a very large gamble.
The growth of the deficit by unfunded mandates is the reason Alan Greenspan talks of a third party movement. The energy and climate issues are the reasons Tom Friedman supports a third party movement.

BEWARE MIXING POLITICS AND RELIGION
America is now entering uncharted and unknown political waters for our future. We seem to be moving towards a nation, which believes that mixing religion and politics is all right. As an American, who strongly believes in God, and who has very strong political opinions, I know we must as Americans, clearly separate the two. This country was founded by men who had deep religious faith, but early, in our nation’s history, they knew that our political beliefs should not reflect our religious beliefs.
We elect our leaders to lead, not to look in the Holy Bible for how to make decisions. When our presidents make a decision, they should never say in private, “What would God do”? “What would God say”? That is not how to lead. We all know that the teachings of Christ in the Bible were all of peace. If that is the case then is it not true that every world war should have never been fought by the United States including the terrorist war we find ourselves fighting today? I am trying to make this very clear: This nation must be very careful when we try to mix religion and politics. In fact, it is dangerous to do so.
We cannot let political beliefs or thoughts in America, be hijacked by religious fanatics from any denomination. This is the very cause in which we fight the war on terrorism we face today. Let us never forget that almost 3,000 of our fellow human beings lost their lives on September 11, 2024, because of fanatics mixing religion with politics. We know we are a nation under God, and we need to remember to keep God in his place. True, he is everywhere in spirit, helping us all with right from wrong. As human beings we all have basic common sense, and we must always use it.
God is in our hearts, in our homes, and present always in our churches. As Americans we need to keep him there, and never allow him to be part of the political process or the political debate. We need to keep our politicians politicking and our preachers preaching. In the end, let all of us keep both of them separate, because it has worked very well for 228 years. As an American I hope for my country we continue that tradition.

Many people that I know believe in a clear cut and often militant method to U.S. Politics. It does so happen that these people are radical christian conservatives who following the common steryotype base political views on distorted interpretations of the bible. Sound familliar. That might be because the Radical muslims blamed for 9/11 did the same thing. A filthy rich man Osama Bin laden whos counterpart is George W. Bush convinced a lot of people to follow a distorted interpretaion of the quaran. George W. Bush used a consevative christian motive which to wage war on afganistan. Hmm... it seems to me that were not so different after all.

The debt, our dependence on foreign oil, and the climate crisis are issue that can unite a majority of people in a common purpose. Neither party has been succesful in articulating a clear message in those areas. Let's hope Unity 08 can.
Well - at last! I learned about Unity08 only today. Before that, I thought I'd have to choose between a "lesser evil" and a "greater evil" come the elections. Now I may actually have a choice! This is pretty exciting! Keep up good work!

The solution is clear for us all and it has nothing to do with technology, changing the system or blame. A Unity movement will enable both political parties to save face and shake the evil special interests... is a built in system our founding fathers created for just this purpose for our existing leaders to join this revolution while in public office ... it also provides a way to get the non-voters to vote and guarantees the American people that the government will be reformed not by any single radical group or political changes based on rage... One of the issues that has been overlooked and needs to be addressed is the two parties will try to block any effort to be on any state ballot. They did this to Perot and to Nadar. Also, even that accomplished, we can never become part of the national debates. Nadar was police escorted out of the hall in boston.
You may not think gay marriage will be an issue, but at some point, perhaps during a national debate, every candidate will be asked about it. For instance, would the candidate sign or veto a Marriage Protection Act to shield DOMA from the Federal Courts, assuming Congress passed one?
Such a question requires a response, perhaps not a yes or no, but something more definitive than 'it doesn't make any difference to Unity08.'
Not only will legitimate parties like Unity08 be included in this presidential elections debate but radicals like the Socialists, Nadar, Bucanan, Earn Snyder (just kidding) and the Greens will be included in the debate by the establishment with a voice like never before! This in an attempt to muffle the voice of Unity08 and other legitimate voices like it with hatred and extremism. And this is when truth will be delivered to the people (if it has been prepared properly) or truth will be washed out by the radical views of fringe groups that will be thrown in our faces in an attempt to make all third party participation seem radical...
