This blog caught my eye the other day. It's written by Ryan Miller, a student at Sacramento State Univerity as a way of highlighting the excessive partisanship and polarization he sees in the news every day. Check it out -- there's plenty of fuel for lively discussions -- and if you know of other blogs (maybe you have one yourself?) that draw attention to the problems Unity08 is seeking to address, please let us know.

Illegal Immigrants
Illegal Immigrants will be the number one issue in the up coming election and Iraq will be second. Our Government in Washington doesn't treat legal Americans as well as it treats illegals and I am sick just watching this country as it slides away...all for the sake of "Political" votes.
All legal Americans need to be offered a little tax amnesty too how about $5000....think how easy illegals are paying for breaking the law. If you only had to pay $5000 in taxes one year... to be forgiven why not offer that to ALL Americans that have broken tax laws? If you don't stand up against this BILL...you will fall for anything. I ask that you do not support anyone that approves the immigration Bill... now before Congress. If we send that message loud and clear...we will have a new congress that will listen to Unity08....My Solution
Tell those that wish to come to this country legally...to get in line.
Have employers dial a social security information "JOB LINE" and ask for the name and the age of the person applying for a job...set up a special number for each state. Give employers 5 days to call the number and varify his employee's SSN.
Then "Fine" employers $5000 for the 1st violation and $50,000 for the second.
Pay any American citizen a bounty that turns in an employer hiring illegals. Have local Police and Sheriffs set up a special unit to hunt down and arrest employers that hire illegals.
Pay the bounty from the money that is fined to the employer.
This will stop the flow of illegals and make new jobs for law enforcement.
9/11 Wake UP!
those 9/11 conspiracy theories are close..my theory is they new there was going to be a terrorist attack so they allowed them to..then they planted bombs in the buildings so that they could take down building 7 to get rid of files relating to corruption scandals against Halleburton! it was a ploy to get us to go to war for more money and to get rid of files that could incriminate them! IT WAS BUSH'S people that said it was the terrorists..it was perhaps...and it was halleburton as well. We should only have Special Forces dealing with terrorists not our army its POINTLESS! there are terrorists in EVERY country! wake up United States!
911
I am probably the only poster here who comes close to agreeing with you on 911. Basicly all you will catch here is grief for your views though. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the 911 Commission Report was as bogus as it gets. Follow the money, see who benefited and you will come to know who the real perpertrators of 911 were. Yes, all three bldgs. were brought down by demolition experts. Dr. Steven Jones formerly of Brigham Young University has proven conclusively that thermate, the industrial version of thermite was used to cut the core beams that allowed the bldgs. to fall nicely into their footprints. Bldg.7 fell in 6.5 seconds, nearly freefall rate and did house much incriminating evidence it was also where the emergency management room was that Rudy should have been in but for some strange reason did not enter. The day before 911 it was announced that trillions of dollars were missing from the Pentagon but dismissed as coincidence that the part of that bldg. that was hit was the accounting dept. I could go on and on and on. While this country may have threats from the outside that are legit the real threats to our nation are internal and they will strike again and it will be worse, much worse. While the real criminals who did this are treasonous, despicable scum their acts could not have been kept secret without the cooperation of the MSM. Alan Dershowitz has stated that it is anti-semitic to question the 911 Commission Report and Bill O'Riley has said he will "go after" anyone who quesions it. I have stated over and over here that the most dangerous thing America can do is to leave Bush and Cheney in power until the election. We are headed for a police state and a dictatorship, they have the pieces in place now and may let things ride for a while if they feel assured Adolf Giuilani or Hitlery Clinton can be elected, but don't count on it.
One thing we do have going for us is the fact that these criminals have created for themselves some very big enemies in the internaional community because of their financial shenanigans. I have read that the reason a few of the people who are running for President is for the protection afforded them by the Secret Service. While the newly elected Congress does not have the gonads to go after them these international entities may have little reservation in setting things right.
It's BS...i really wish our
It's BS...i really wish our Citizens would take to the streets in large masses. like we did during Vietnam...only this time we are fighting in a different climate. they are more exposed then the Vietnamese are..that and its only a small group of terrorists. It's not the half the country...YET...don't people see that Bush and them are causing World War 3 to get in motion....Russia, China, Arab Nation and N.Korea will ally against us in a World War...it won't resort to nukes because no one will want to ruin the land that they can conquer it would be a last resort and it wouldn't be very efficient. Only a small percentage though allot *in the millions* we would still survive. With that said. People need to take to the streets and stand up to our government. If they don't listen to us and stop what they are doing we should invoke the power our Founding Fathers gave us in our Declaration of Independence to stop such corruption.
and I hope Dennis Kucinich wins really...he's seems to be a good man and he's very passionate.
Hope for the best and Prepare for the worst
Our "citizens" are too dumbed down and most don't have a clue as to what is happening in this country. You obviously have a feel for what is going on but are wasting your breath attempting to sound the alarm. All you will do is get labeled a crackpot and wacko. Imagine the worst case scenario and prepare. In the meantime dig deep into all the candidates views, records and alliances and help us get a candidate who is not already bought and paid for and will America first, second and third. As naive as it may sound, Prayer imo is our greatest weapon against the forces of evil we are confronted with.
um one nuke isn't going to
um one nuke isn't going to do jack squat to us! that could maybe take out Texas...we dropped 2 on Japan and they survived atomic blasts. The only reason the Terrorists hate us is because we allow the oil men to control out country and allow them to occupy other countries for oil!
I'm not so sure it would not
I'm not so sure it would not result in nukes going off. If an extremist gets there hands on them, there is no telling what they would do, these people do not always use logic, reason, or common sense and some are down right crazy (abate a small number) and there is no telling what a nut would do. Bin Laden is intelligent but not all his followers are and that is where the problem lies.
IMHO we need to change strategy in Iraq, however, this administration is hell bent on staying the course, that is where the problem lies. I am as angry with the reps on their defense of Bush and angry with the dems on immigration. The two issues that will be top in 08 elections, even if they are 2 and 3 in reality. Government reform/campaign reform is the 1st. Besides, 2 and 3 entails many other issues and no one has connected the dots to realize this.
See "Top three issues" forum.

It does not really matter
It does not really matter what happened or what you believe happened on 9/11. The blame game is how our politicians control the people. We need to stop them, not waste our time on something we cannot change and we cannot change 9/11 no matter how much we would like to. It is also not reasonable to think, if what you say is true, anyone would be held responsible. In fact, we all are responsible because we let this government get out of control and allow a number of presidents, senators and congresspeople worry more about getting reelected then our nations business. Personally, I would need to see proof, not rumor, no matter how logical that rumor may sound, to convict someone of anything. If you have ever been on a jury, you would know what I mean. It's easy to say, not so easy to prove. Let us concentrate on getting more people involved in U08 and discuss what we can still change, namely holding our elected official accountable for there future behavior, how they write and enact bills, how they work together, how they spend our money, who they allow to access them, etc. These are things we can still change, but only if we unite as a nation of people. Grassroots is the key. This is time well spent.

Betty327@ptd.net
It does matter
It may not matter what I think happened on 911 but what exactly did happen does matter. If we did know what happened we would know who to hold accountable. We are not all responsible for it, only those who actually did it are. Proof is not hard to find if you take the time to look. That being said, I agree this is not the place to have a debate on whatreallyhappened.com on 911, but rather to come to a compromise and make darn sure we nominate and get candidates on the ballot who will put America first and are as far removed from the past three administrations and the leadership of the Democrat and GOP parties as possible.
Come On Guys!!
Come on HC and feelgood! Let's get back in the real world aand out of tabloid conspiracy theory heaven. These are all fun to think about but rarely if ever pan out. As bad as the MSM may be, this conspiracy stuff is 20 times worse. Let's get back to the issues at hand and leave this stuff to the supermarket isles OK??

Sorry for the digression Milligan
Now where were we, oh yeah, i was as usual plugging Ron Paul the only true conservative in the race, the only one who has accepted no funds from a certain lobbying group and the only one who takes seriously his oath to preserve, uphold and defend the Constitution. The thing I am wrestling with is who I would nominate to run with him. It was Kucinich until I found out about his disdain for the right to keep and bear arms. I am leaning toward Mike Gravel who like Paul had pretty good numbers in internet polls I have seen. I liked his line about the rest of the Dem field in the first debate, "these people scare the hell out of me!". But my first choice was and still is Bob Bowman, a Democrat who ran unsuccessfully for House out of Florida. He is a former military man who was over star wars during the Carter and Ford administrations. (yes star wars existed before Reagan) He also flew over 100 combat missions in Vietnam. His race for the House in Florida was rumored (sorry Betty) to have been quite corrupted, as it seems some in his own party were less than supportive of his effort. Can you name me a Dem who is shunned by the party leadership but who's stances might resonate with someone like myself and the general public?
HC
As far as gun control issue, the MSM is feeding the BS to the public. No one, not dems or reps want to end the 2nd amendment. But common sense would tell you that the only reason a person wants an automatic rifle or handgun is to kill people, these weapons are not used for hunting or collecting. In order to keep guns out of the hands of people who are mentally ill or killers or drug dealers, we need to have background checks, real ones, not look good checks and the NRA is sinking tons of money to make people think their rights are under attack when they are not. As far a choosing a candidate, remember, you are not going to agree with everything one says, IMHO if they are strong supporters of government reform/campaign reform they will have my consideration. Of course I will need to know where they stand on what I think the most critical issues, foreign policy - which entails a number of things and fiscal responsibility - also entailing a number of things. One cannot say that the reps are fiscally responsible nor can they say the dems are for new entitlements, In recent years there is less and less difference between the parties. The one thing that is different is the hot button issues and that is all.
Betty
Betty327@ptd.net
Sticky question...
We need good background checks before anyone can purchase a firearm.
The NRA bristles when any attempt is made to strengthen the gun-control laws because they are playing to their base - and it has been an effective way for them to grow their membership.
They are also nervous because the "right" to bear arms is wide open to interpretation; please tell me where there is any specific "right" to bear arms for an individual in the constitution...
Another example of people reading what they want into a sentence - this is where conspiracy theories, and crack-pot ideas germinate.
My personal view? I want background checks - but I don't want guns banned. I just get irritated when the NRA trumpets the constitution as "proof" of their righteous cause; the same attitude is exhibited by certain religious leaders/groups when they spin a passage from the bible to "prove" their point.

It all comes down to common
It all comes down to common sense. I just wish people would see this.

Dems who might resonate
I do like James Webb - big fan from way back. Give him a few more months before he really starts ticking off the Dem leadership. And Bob Kerrey has done his share of ticking off esp on his Entitlements stands. I do respect Kucinich but he is on the fringe left but does have the requisite political courage to tic off the leadership but maybe not is base constituents - there is a difference. I prefere governors for the most part as they have real life experiences in dealing with real problems. Star Wars??? - that is the biggest special interest gravy train boondoogle in Government IMHO. I think the price tag is now up to $200 billion on that one!

Shunned by Dems
Al Gore? Howard Dean? That female F.B.I. 9/11 whistleblower from Minnesota (?) who made a primary run for Congress in 2024? (I can't recall her name right off hand...sorry).
On the list of those candidates the Dems need to leave the fark well enough alone, Harold Ford, Jr. of Tennessee in '06?
Gawd, that was a sorry mess. Ford came close to out-righting Doodah McCorkle, the "winner"...
Unbelieveable...

Ron Paul $5 Million Dollar Man?
It seems his performance in the debates so far has increased donations to his campaign, not by hundreds or thousands, but by millions. Check it out:
http://www.freemarketnews.com/WorldNews.asp?nid=43192
With donations like this he can now run with the big dogs!
Please talk Issues HC!
HC could you please talk issues and stop the shameless Ron Paul soundbite promotions (along with your conspiracy theories) that do not edify us in any way or help Ron at all. It actually puts him in pretty poor light IMO.
http://milligansstew.blogspot.com
The Big Three Issues IMO
The ones that will probably decide the election:
1. The War in Iraq
2. Illegal Immigration
3. Health Care
My Big Three
1. Government Corruption
2. Lobbying (my idea here is to limit lobbyists visits to "by invitation only meetings, in other words when Congress is debating issues that pertain to a certain group, industry, etc. they could at their discression invite in reps of the group invloved to get their views on how proposed legislation might affect them and their ideas for better legislation)
3.Enforcement of the laws already on the books.
I think 1 and 2 are the
I think 1 and 2 are the same, corruption and lobbyist influence and it could be argued that 3 is one and the same as well since lobbyist are fighting hard to make sure laws are not enforced on the border.
With regard to what will determine the election, none of these things will happen if we do not get real government reform/campaign reform.

#1 is Everything
If it were not for corruption we would probably have far fewer numbers to deal with. The love of money is the root of all evil. And as we all know here the politicians serve those who pay the best and not the voters who elected them. Kick out the bums, elect no lawyers, investigate all their crimes while they were in office and then prosecute them to fullest extent allowable under the law. We need to make examples out of the criminals so that newly elected officials are too afraid to break the law.
I'll go along with that.
I'll go along with that. Hope they don't destroy evidence before we can investigate.
Betty
Betty327@ptd.net
They already tried
They already tried destroying evidence when they dropped Building 7 containing investigations on Halleburton. Yet you still want to believe Bush couldn't possibly have been responsible for 9/11 even though it was his people he appointed when he took office and we know that they lied about WMD's so how do we not know that he didn't lie about 9/11? You tell me to stop believing the Conspiracy Theories? Why when every bit of evidence points back towards Bush. In 2024 Gore WON the election...and who's Brother was the Governor then? George Bush's brother! Then 9/11 came about and 3 building for the first time in history collapsed cause of fire...first time in history two planes disentagrate upon impact. 6 Weeks before 9/11 Larry Silverstein put a 3.5 billion dollar insurance policy specifically covering acts of terrorism. Only days after the towers collapsed all the rubble was shipped off across sea's and never had investigations done, and if we disagreed with what President Bush said then we could be terrorists. HE USED FEAR TO MAKE US BELIEVE HIM! Like Roosevelt said there is nothing to fear but fear itself.
You say my conspiracy theories are false? Even though the facts do point that Halleburton and all of Bush's friends benefit from this war? Even though its true it was the first time in history planes disentigrate upon impact, and first time buildings collapsed cause of fire. Yet you want to believe President Bush couldn't possibly be behind it even though we know he's lied already? They used 9/11 to be able to pass the Patriot Act which invades our constitution..even though it says THAT WE ARE TO NEVER GIVE UP OUR RIGHTS! I may not know if he is behind it but more evidence points towards Halleburton then it does Al-Qaeda. When we ask to present the information about how Al-Qaeda is linked they can't discuss it..they can't discuss anything...WAKE UP YOU IGNORANT FOOL!
Excuse me, Dr Feelgood, I am not an
Excuse me, I am not an ignorant fool. I never said it is not true and I never said it was true. The fact is, nobody knows for sure. I was merely stating that we cannot change the past but we can change the future. I would prefer to put my efforts into what I can change and not what I cannot change. It is up to you where you wish to put your efforts.

The American Revolution Started in '06
The election of '06 was one of the greatest in the history of the Union because people quit looking for the D or the R and started looking at the issues and looking for candidates who's views matched their own. It is no longer politics as usual. The MSM is looking more and more like the little boy who cried wolf one time too many until when the wolf showed up for real no one believed him and he was devoured.
One such issue today is illegal immigration. Face it, right or wrong the vast majority of the people want a stop put to it and don't want amnesty in any form for the illegals already here. Juan McCain's stance on this issue has imo already cost him any chance he had of becoming El Presidente, his campaign is toast, fini, over.
Yes,'06 was great but '08 will be even better. The politicians may not realize it yet but soon they will see the "writing on the wall" (sorry for spinning that bible verse monzoman) and know they are going to be swept away in the revolution too.
