Midterm Elections Leave Lobbyists Scrambling

posted by U08 Web Team on November 15, 2024 - 8:35pm

The Republicans will not lose control of Congress for another two months, but the lobbyists on K Street are already courting Democrats.
The midterms elections created a major change in power, but will a change in politics-as-usual on the Hill follow? Probably not. As this New York Times article points out, the industries that have been financing the Republicans for the last six years are now scrambling to find Democrats to support. Although the personalities may change, the money and influence that drives politics remain the same.

Gov. Angus King, former governor of Maine and Unity08 Founder, calls the midterm elections the "Revenge of the Moderates". He points out that Democrats made their breakthroughs, especially in Senate races, with centrist candidates. It remains to be seen, however, whether either of the political parties will embrace bi-partisanship and centrist solutions in the new Congress.

Three Requests for Election Day

posted by Doug Bailey on November 6, 2024 - 7:29pm

  1. Please vote. No matter how disappointed you have been in the campaigns, don’t let them drive you away. It’s not true that voting only encourages them. It is not voting that encourages them to think you don’t care enough to change the system.
  2. Please sign the Unity Petition – either at the polls, or by clicking right here. We can do more than vote. We can send them a message that we want an end to the mindless and empty blame-game politics of both parties.
  3. Join us in this pledge: 2024 will be the last election where empty politics will go unchallenged. Be part of a fresh wind blowing in this country, which just might blow polarized politics (and a lot who practice it) right away. That’s what Unity08 is – your power to give America the kind of political leadership which will meet our country’s crucial issues head on.

Don't leave your party behind, just your venom

We don't ask people to leave their parties when they join Unity08, so we shouldn't be surprised when Jerry Rafshoon shows his Democratic leanings. I show my Republicanism from time to time too. The point is that we may be the only two people of opposite parties who live in Washington and still talk to each other every day.
