Talking about the crucial issues

We have heard loud and clear our supporters’ desire to talk about crucial issues like the Iraq war, health care, energy independence and education. And, we strongly believe that the American people deserve a better understanding of the complicated issues we all face.

The 30-second sound bytes articulating candidates’ black and white position on issues does us all a disservice and the party platform process is meaningless in today’s political climate.

So we will launch something we’re calling the “American Agenda.” It will be a major online initiative through which our online supporters will select the crucial issues facing our nation, participate in interactive briefings where nonpartisan, expert views on all sides of the issues are presented, and ultimately, select the key questions to be answered fully and candidly by all candidates seeking the Unity Ticket nomination (and likely presented to the major party candidates as well).

We do not believe that it is our role to take positions on the issues - that is for the candidates. But we will force our candidates to address the most pressing issues of the day. Our job is to compel the American people and our candidates to focus on the crucial issues and to demand clear and substantive answers. These answers will demonstrate the candidates' critical thinking, style of leadership and competence for the job. The American Agenda is how we plan to do that.
